Faculty Laptop

CSDE has a Dell Latitude laptop computer available for UW faculty affiliates. It has a floppy disk drive and a CD-RW drive. Microsoft Office, R, SPSS, and the usual supplemental software (VirusScan, UWICK, WinZip, etc.) have been installed.

Affiliates may borrow this laptop for conferences, professional and on-campus presentations, library/archival research both on-campus and off-campus, and depending on availability, for any other work-related reason. The normal checkout period is one week or less. Special permission is required for a longer checkout period.

If you have a license for more specialized statistical software and want to use it, you may install a copy on the hard drive, or use it from the CD drive. CSDE computer staff will delete such software after the laptop is returned.

Student Laptops and Projector

CSDE has four Dell Latitude laptop computers, an Apple PowerBook, and an NEC LT-155 projector purchased with funds from the Student Technology Fee. This equipment may be checked out by students affiliated with CSDE for job interviews, professional presentations, library/archival research, the CSDE colloquium series, and depending on availability, for any other work-related reason. The normal checkout period is two weeks or less. Special permission is required for a longer checkout period.

How to Check Out Equipment

To borrow any of the listed computer equipment, contact Josh Patrick by clicking here or (206) 616-7743 to reserve it. Please indicate the date and time that you want to pick it up, and when you will return it. Please allow time when you pick it up for a brief introduction to its operation.

If the computer will be taken outside of the US, please make your reservation early, and let us know that you will be taking it abroad. We will need time to make special arrangements regarding insurance. Insurance costs are higher for the time that a computer is out of the US. CSDE will pay the higher premium, but will ask affiliates to share the cost of the higher deductible if the equipment is lost or stolen. If the laptop were lost or stolen outside of the US, the cost to CSDE would be $500 more than if it were lost or stolen in the US. We will ask affiliates to leave a check for $250 payable to CSDE to cover half the cost of the additional insurance cost in the event of loss or theft. This check will be returned when the laptop is returned.
