Project Profile

    The Vietnam Life History Survey was conducted as a collaborative research effort by researchers at the University of Washington-Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology, The Institute of Sociology in Hanoi, Vietnam, and the Institute of Social Sciences in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam during 1991.  The VLHS data was collected for four samples of approximately 100 households each stratifief by region and urban/rural status.  The four sample areas include:  an urban sample from Can Tho (a city of approximately 284,000, about 170 km south of Ho Chi Minh City), and urban sample from Hai Duong (a city of approximately 110,000 about 50 km east of Hanoi), a rural sample from Tien Tien commune (about 6 kilometers from Hai Duong city), and a rural sample from the village of Long Hoa near Can Tho in the South.
