Clarification to RFA-OD-09-003-Recovery Act Limited Competition: NIH Challenge Grants in Health and Science Research (RC1)
Notice Number: NOT-OD-09-061
Release Date: March 6, 2009
This notice clarifies eligibility to the NIH Challenge Grants in Health and
Science Research Program with respect to domestic (United States)
institutions/organizations wishing to submit applications that include foreign
components.
Funding for this program is provided under the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act).
The purposes of the Recovery Act are to preserve and create jobs and
promote economic recovery in the United States, and to provide
investments needed to increase economic efficiency by spurring technological
advances in science and health.
Consistent with these goals, domestic (United States)
institutions/organizations (i.e., those located in the 50 states, territories
and possessions of the United States, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Trust
Territory of the Pacific Islands, or District of Columbia) who are planning to
submit applications that include foreign components should be aware that
requested funding for any foreign component should not exceed 10% of the total
requested direct costs or $25,000 (aggregate total for all subcontracts and
subawards), whichever is less.

Full-time Faculty and Program Chair – California Institute of Integral Studies, Somatic Psychology
The Somatic Psychology Program of the California
Institute for Integral Studies announces an opening for a full-time faculty
member who will also assume the role of Program Chair. The Somatic Psychology
program at CIIS is one of three accredited degree programs in the US that teach
both traditional and body-oriented approaches to psychotherapy. Students
graduate with a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. It is one of five
concentrations in The School of Professional Psychology at CIIS that lead to
the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology fulfilling the academic
requirements for Marriage and Family Therapist licensure in the State of California.
With a student community of 80-100 students, the program creates an exciting
learning environment that combines experiential work with didactic learning.
New faculty will enter a community of vibrant discussion and forward-looking
thought. The program has a developing research program and a clinic where
students can earn practicum credits while doing and learning body-oriented
approaches to psychotherapy under the supervision of licensed practitioners.

Assistant Professor – DePaul University, International Studies
The International Studies Program seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant
Professor position starting in fall 2009. We are especially interested in
active researchers in the social sciences with a focus on postcolonial or
transnational analysis. We are open to applications from scholars of all
regional (or multi-regional) specialties; our greatest regional need is in the Middle East. The program is committed to hiring a diverse
faculty to teach our multi-ethnic student body. Among our candidates, we
encourage applications from scholars of color and women who can contribute to
an interdisciplinary program that draws on geography, sociology, anthropology,
political science, legal studies and economics to study contemporary
international affairs and global cultural processes. The BA program in
international studies offers motivated undergraduates rigorous academic
training that prepares them for advanced studies across a range of graduate or
professional school disciplines. The MA program is geared toward students who
desire to further careers in international civil society. The Program values
outstanding teaching and innovative pedagogical approaches.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship – MacArthur Foundation Network, Transitions to Adulthood
The MacArthur Foundation Network on Transitions
to Adulthood is creating a new interdisciplinary postdoctoral fellowship
program. The program is intended to facilitate the professional development of
scholars who have conducted high quality research on topics related to early
adulthood and wish to further develop their skills and research program in this
field.

Post-Doctoral Position – UCLA, California Center for Population Research
The California Center of Population Research
(CCPR) invites applications for a postdoctoral position to participate in the
Mekong Integrated Population-Registration Areas of Cambodia (MIPRAoC) project.
MIPRAoC is a demographic surveillance system (DSS) collecting demographic and
survey data annually in seven areas along the Mekong
Valley in Cambodia. The DSS allows
researchers to track demographic trends and the survey data are designed for
analyses of past and contemporary family processes in these areas.
The selected applicant is expected to facilitate the liaison between the P.I.
at CCPR and the project manager in Cambodia,
and to collaborate with them in conducting research on children and families in
Cambodia using MIPRAoC data
and other data sources on Cambodia.
Short travels to Cambodia
may be required. The appointment is for one year, with negotiable starting
dates within the next academic year. This full time employment will not be
compatible with other employment during the stay at UCLA.
Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D., or equivalent international
diploma, in anthropology, demography, economics, sociology, or another social
science discipline. They should have a solid track record of writing and
publishing research papers, both independently and in collaboration with other
researchers. Candidates with a working knowledge of Khmer are encouraged to
apply, but strong oral and written communication skills in English are
essential. Other requirements include the ability to work effectively in a
multi-national environment, experience in managing and analyzing large data
sets, and independence in conducting research.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship – RAND, Population Studies
The RAND Corporation is accepting applications
for one postdoctoral fellowship in Population Studies, pending funding
approval. This competitive program
enables outstanding scholars to sharpen their analytic skills and advance their
research agenda in the field of population studies. Scholars come from various
disciplines including economics, demography, sociology, and psychology.
Housed within RAND’s Labor and Population Program, the program blends formal
and informal training and extensive collaboration with distinguished
researchers without teaching obligations. One-year fellowships are renewable
for a second year and provide a competitive stipend and health insurance.
The expected start date is Fall 2009 but is negotiable.

RAND Summer Institute
RAND is pleased to announce the 16th annual RAND
Summer Institute (RSI), which will take place in Santa Monica, CA, July 6-9,
2009. The RSI consists of two conferences addressing critical issues facing our
aging population: a Mini-Medical
School for Social
Scientists (July 6-7) and a workshop on the Demography, Economics and Epidemiology
of Aging (July 8-9). The primary aim of
the RSI is to expose scholars interested in the study of aging to a wide range
of research being conducted in fields beyond their own specialties.
