Local to Global: Frameworks in Global Health
Funded by The NIH John E. Fogarty International Center
"The Framework Programs will serve as a catalyst within and across universities to move global health forward farther and faster. By bringing leaders from business, social science, journalism, law
and other fields together with experts in health, and by engaging tomorrow's
leaders in the process, we foster an environment of innovation and forward momentum,
all directed to improving global health."

Specific Aims
The UW has been awarded a prestigious NIH Fogarty Frameworks in Global Health grant. Our proposed Frameworks project will bring together the faculty and resources of four separate schools at the University of Washington -- Medicine, Public Health, Law, and Arts and Sciences -- to address the challenge of translating research and medical advances into improvements in global health and the reduction of health disparities. The goal of this project is to develop new curricular resources and administrative frameworks that will remove barriers to and facilitate both inter- and multi-disciplinary training in global health. Specifically we will undertake the following:
- Curriculum: Develop a coordinated, interdisciplinary curriculum that will energize and inspire undergraduates, graduate students and researchers interested and/or active in global health.
- Administrative Framework: Establish a comprehensive overview of the wide range of existing and developing global health activities at the University of Washington.
- Outreach: Build the global health constituency by synergizing the efforts of faculty and researchers currently working in the area, providing outreach to those not currently involved in global health issues, and strengthening ties to our regional and global partners.
- Evaluation of activities carried out by the grant.
