First Seed Grant Awarded
Congratulations to Drs. Nelly Mugo and Charles Olungah for their successful application "Promotion of couples HIV
counseling and addressing barriers to HIV disclosure and willingness of men to be tested for HIV in Kenya." This proposal
is extremely timely and relevant, focusing on HIV discordance among heterosexual couples, which is a critical issue for
a generalized epidemic such as Kenya’s. This project will evaluate a culturally-appropriate couples counseling uptake
intervention.
The KeFA Seed Grant Program is meant to provide funding to develop and submit successful research proposals to external
funders such as the National Institutes of Health (U.S.). KeFA is interested in research questions that show promise to
receive future funding. Six applications were received as part of the first request for applications (RFA). The next
application deadline is expected to be announced in September 2008.
