CSDE Retreat May 2, 2008

You are invited to attend the CSDE spring meeting/retreat this Friday afternoon (May 2) at the UW Club for a discussion of future prospects and priorities for CSDE and the population research community.

The program consists of two panels of affiliates who will briefly introduce and outline areas of interest, followed by break-out groups for discussion with interested faculty, staff and students, and a short re-cap.

  • 12:00 -1:30 -- Lunch at HUB 209AB (by reservation only)

  • 1:45 to 3:00 PM -- CSDE in 2012 (UW Club): A discussion of (and opportunity to provide input to) priority setting and future possibilities for CSDE services and activities, including Information (introduced by Sara Curran and Anne Zald, UW Libraries) and Training (Charlie Hirschman).

  • 3:00 PM -- Coffee break

  • 3:15 to 5:00 PM -- New research directions and funding opportunities:
    Preliminary list of topics:
NICHD Long-range planning and family research (Shelly Lundberg)
    Health disparities (David Takeuchi)
    Research on aging (Bob Plotnick)
New developments in biodemography (Kathy O'Connor)
  • 4:30 PM -- Research on migration (Mark Ellis)

We are hoping to see new proposals for seed grants and working group support coming out of these discussions. There will also be a list for suggested seminar speakers for next year.

Many thanks for contributing to this planning effort--I look forward to seeing you there.
