CSDE Traineeships: Advanced Graduate Training in Demography

This is to announce this year's round of applications for CSDE Traineeships, CSDE's advanced graduate training in demography.

Applications to become a CSDE Trainee are now open, until end of day on Monday, October 17th.

Participation in the CSDE Training program is open to any graduate student at the University of Washington.

CSDE is now accepting applications for CSDE Traineeships. They provide an opportunity for graduate students with interests in demography to become affiliated with CSDE. These traineeships do not come with substantial funding, however we may offer limited support for travel to present demographic research in professionally-oriented or academic conferences. The program does allow students to establish their credentials as demographers by taking a number of demographic courses (SOC 513, SOC 533), participating in the weekly CSDE Seminar (1-cr CSDE 501), and completing a sequence of population proseminars (1-2 cr CSDE 502)

HOW TO APPLY and WHAT TO DO NOW:

  1. Applicants should register for CSDE 502 (Population Proseminar) in Autumn quarter right away. In CSDE 502 they will be introduced to the core services offered by CSDE, to CSDE staff and CSDE faculty.
  2. Applications can be submitted online by visiting https://catalysttools.washington.edu/webq/survey/latsch/83761 (NetID required). The application is in the form of an online WebQ survey. Applications are due by end of day on Monday, October 17th.
  3. Applicants should identify a faculty mentor they are working with (typically but not necessarily a member of their committee). They should then ask the faculty mentor to complete a short online recommendation which is available at https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/latsch/144920. Recommendations from mentors are also due by end of day on Monday, October 17th.

Please note that the first meeting of the CSDE 502 Population Proseminar will be on Friday October 21st, 10.30-11.20 am, place to be confirmed.
