CSDE's Center Grant renewed for 2007-2012!
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has awarded CSDE a 5-year
competitive renewal of its center grant under the Population Research Infrastructure Program. The
center grant provides essential funding for CSDE staff and services, and this success ensures the
continuation of our highly-regarded technical and administrative support for research in demography
and public health at the University of Washington and our regional affiliates. Over the next year,
we are planning to expand those services to include staff expertise in spatial analysis and a developmental
program that will provide seed grants and support for working groups.
Federal research infrastructure funding involves fierce competition over a budget that has remained
fixed over time. CSDE's excellent review panel score and award level are tributes to the stature of
our affiliates and the significance of their research ("one of the strongest population groups in
the country" says the NICHD review summary), the skills and effectiveness of our staff, and the
stalwart support of CSDE and population research by the College and the University.
