Tim Thomas Spearheads City of Seattle and UW Research Summit

Tim Thomas, sociology graduate student and CSDE trainee, was the driving force in organizing the first City of Seattle and University of Washington Research Summit, held at UW on January 31, 2012. Hosted by CSDE and the Department of Sociology, the summit brought together nearly 30 UW participants and 20 City of Seattle officials to showcase recent UW research on Seattle and to discuss ways to facilitate future research projects of interests to the City and to UW researchers. Indeed, as a result of the Summit and other discussions, the City is interested in exploring how to provide UW researchers greater access to data collected by City.

The UW participants included 11 CSDE affiliates, other faculty and administrators, graduate students, and CSDE and UW staff. Officials from the following City of Seattle agencies participated: The City Legislative Office, Office of City Auditor, Office of Finance and Administrative Services, Seattle Police Department, Seattle Department of Transportation, Department of Information Technology, and Seattle Public Utilities.

The meeting agenda document is here. It includes a list of UW participants and the research abstracts.
