Research Summary:Diane Morrison, Professor of Social Welfare, is a social psychologist whose demography-related work is primarily on reproductive and sexual behavior. For over 15 years, Dr. Morrison has been involved in basic research and intervention projects that address processes of decision-making about sexual risk taking. Her research is based on social cognitive models including the Theory of Reasoned Action, (TRA), the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Social Cognitive Theory. She is involved in theory development and testing; application of these models to reproductive decision making, sexual safety, and other health-related behaviors; and development and testing of interventions. Dr. Morrison's current work focuses on adding interpersonal and environmental constructs to these psychological models, and development of new sexual safety interventions.
Research on children and the development of their health-protective attitudes and behaviors is another area of interest. Dr. Morrison's work on teenage mothers and their children focuses on expanding the TRA/TPB model to include antecedents of decision making, and modeling the transmission of beliefs and attitudes from parents to children.
