SAS Licensing Information
The Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology (CSDE) is now selling SAS server licenses for Windows Terminal and Linux systems. CSDE has bought a large number of SAS server "workunits" that other UW departments can buy from CSDE using a UW Budget #. The license period is 7/1 - 6/30. Licenses are sold in 1-year (12-month) increments only.
SAS server licenses are available for these platforms:
- Windows Server x32 (2000, 2003, 2008, 2012 )
- Windows Server x64 (2000, 2003, 2008, 2012 )
- Linux x32 and x64 (Red Hat or SUSE) (Note: a Linux license is always a "server" license, there is no "desktop linux" available from SAS)
- Linux x32 Debian or Ubuntu (Note: Not officially supported, but v9.1.3 works - v9.2 unknown)

SAS license fees when used on multi-user server machines:
CPU sockets Price 1 $1500 2 $2800 4 $3700 8 $6000
Note: SAS Institute has recently changed licensing to CPU Sockets (no longer CPU cores)
For example, our price for SAS on a 2-socket server (2 SAS workunits, regardless of how many cpu cores per socket) would cost a department $2800 per year (charged to your UW budget number). Our license period is yearly, from July 1 to June 30. In some circumstances, we are able to accept payment upfront for multiple years of SAS (some restrictions apply, contact csde_help@u for details)
Please note that the above prices are current as of 2/2010. In addition, because we must renegotiate our SAS license each year, CSDE must reserve the right to change SAS license pricing without notice.
If you have questions or would like to purchase a license, please send your desired CPU Socket quantity and a budget # to which we can charge your yearly license to the CSDE Computing Help Desk at csde_help@u.washington.edu
