GIS
What is GIS?
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is an integrated collection of computer software and data used
to view and manage information about geographic places, analyze spatial relationships, and model spatial
processes. GIS provides a framework for gathering and organizing spatial data and related information
so that it can be displayed and analyzed.
As nearly all demographic research involves some form of spatial
information, the methodologies and technologies offered by GIS can be used by CSDE affiliates to approach
the complex issues they are currently dealing with in new ways and extend the kinds of research they
pursue in the future.
