Core Services - Overview

The Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology provides infrastructural support for population research and training at the University of Washington and to our affiliates in the Pacific Northwest. CSDE is made up of the following core groups offering services to all of our affiliates:

Administration and Information Management

Deborah Harper, administrative services, 206C Raitt, (206) 616-7463, Email
David Hyllegard, information services, 218D Raitt, (206) 543-9525, Email

The Administration and Information Management team provides a comprehensive set of project support services from initial proposal planning to post-award administration of grants, and includes personnel management, project reporting and research dissemination and translation. AIMC staff prepares budgets and other forms and arranges submission by both paper and electronic formats depending on agency requirements. The AIMC provides assistance with manuscript editing, human subjects applications, and other proposal development services. When grants are awarded, the AIMC supports research projects with fiscal management, including compliance supervision, budget review and reconciliation, establishment and monitoring of subcontracts, processing of extensions and budget modifications when necessary, project report writing, NIH Public Access Policy compliance, and research dissemination and translation. Personnel and payroll advice and administration are provided for projects when staff are hired or reviewed.

Biodemography

Eleanor Brindle, 448 Denny, (206) 616-9369, Email

The Biodemography team supports the use of biomarkers in population research by providing laboratory facilities for collecting, processing, and storing biological specimens and assisting CSDE affiliates in the use of biomarker assay protocols and methods tailored to their research.

Computing

Matt Weatherford, 218H Raitt, (206) 616-6169, Email

The Computing team provides computing infrastructure and technical support to affiliates with the goal of providing not only secure, stable, and cost-effective research computing facilities, but also a cutting-edge and responsive environment for researchers at the frontiers of population research. An expert staff provides responsive and comprehensive research support through a high level of availability for individual consultation, troubleshooting, and cooperative infrastructure development.

Methods and Data

Cori Mar, 218C Raitt, (206) 616-6183, Email
Matt Dunbar, GIS services, 218L Raitt, (206)543-7685, Email
