Finding Information
Where do I find the information I want?
It’s nearly impossible to find what you want if you don’t know what you want. Before you start looking for a particular source, define the question or problem you’re trying to answer. Then identify the kind of information you’ll need to answer that question.
Once you have a clear idea of what you’re looking for, you can begin to evaluate how appropriate a source will likely be for meeting your particular need. Many resources are great for some tasks, but not for others. On this page, we’ve provided some recommendations for resources we think may be helpful for the CSDE community.
Here is an annotation of online resources related to population and demographic research. Are you a regional affiliate? Use this process to remotely access UW-only resources.
We’ve also created a list of many prominent and relevant social science journals. See a complete alphabetical list.
Are you looking for some resources more specific to your field, such as Sociology, Geography, Economics, Public Policy, or Anthropology? These are some additional resources that will help you locate subject-specific information.
Would you rather have information delivered directly to you? Set up Table of Contents delivery and have the TOCs of the journals of your choice delivered to your email inbox, RSS feed device, or personal online account. You can also subscribe to an e-Newsletter and Listservs for information. Here are a few demography related e-Newsletters and Listservs.
Once you’ve chosen a resource, think about the most effective ways to search it.
