PubMed Manuscript Submission Service for CSDE Affiliates, Fellows and Staff

CSDE Information Core staff will submit manuscripts authored by CSDE affiliates, fellows, and staff to PubMed Central. The manuscripts must meet the following criteria:

  • Accepted for publication on or after April 7, 2008
  • Accepted in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Based on work that was funded by NIH in October 2007 or beyond

In order for CSDE Information Core staff to submit your manuscript we will need the following information and materials:

  • Your final peer-reviewed manuscript file(s) (your final manuscript including modification resulting from the peer review process, but not the journal's authoritative copy of the paper, which may include copy editing and formatting changes)
  • Principal investigator name and email address
  • The NIH grant or contract number
  • Lead author name and email address
  • Title of the journal
  • A copy of the publication or copyright agreement you signed with the publisher

Once the manuscript has been submitted to PubMed Central by CSDE Information Core staff, the author and the grant PI will be contacted by the NIHMS and asked to do the following:
1) Authorize NIH to Process the Manuscript
The author designates the number of months after publication when the manuscript may be made publicly available in PMC. The author then signs off, via the NIHMS, on a statement that confirms that the deposit of the manuscript is consistent with any publication and copyright agreements, and that NIH may begin processing the manuscript for use in PMC.
2) Approve the PMC-formatted Manuscript for Public Display
The NIHMS will convert the deposited files into a standard PMC format, and email the author to approve the PMC-formatted manuscript for public display. The author reviews and approves the PMC-formatted manuscript via the NIHMS. Corrections to the manuscript, if necessary, may be requested at this time.

Note: In many cases, the author who completes tasks 1 and 2 will be the PI on the associated NIH award. When the author is not the PI, the NIHMS will notify the PI that a manuscript has been linked to the NIH award, upon completion of step 1.

The NIH Public Access Policy states that manuscripts must be deposited in PubMed Central immediately after the manuscript has been accepted for publication. As soon as possible after that, send the information listed above to CSDE Information Core staff via email.

If you have any questions about this, contact David Hyllegard, CSDE Information Core director at: Email or 206-543-9525.
