Ben Hanowell is a senior living researcher and data scientist at A Place for Mom.

While at the University of Washington, Benjamin’s research covered diverse topics ranging from the determinants of migrant remittance behavior, to the rise and fall of ancient Mayan polities. To tackle these issues, he drew on a synthesis of evolutionary and social science theories. His methodological interests included biodemography, econometrics, quantitative and computational modeling, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, and rigorously assessing the benefits of more detailed but costly social surveys of migration and remittance behavior over cheaper but less detailed ones.
