The Effect of Air Pollution on Migration: Evidence from China

     When:  Friday, May 15, 2018 (12:30-1:30 PM)
     Where:  121 Raitt Hall

Paulina Oliva, Department of Economics, UC Irvine

In this seminar, Oliva looks at the effects of air pollution on migration in China using changes in the average strength of thermal inversions over five-year periods as a source of exogenous variation for medium-run air pollution levels. Her results are robust to different specifications, including simple counts of inversions as instruments, different weather controls, and different forms of error variance.

CSDE Tier 3 Seed Grants: Applications Due May 25

The third and final deadline for CSDE’s Tier 3 seed grants for this academic year will be May 25, 2018.  Tier 1 and Tier 2 applications continue to be accepted on a rolling basis. In brief: Tier 1 applications are for in-kind services only; Tier 2 are for up to $10k; and Tier 3 are up to $25k. All UW faculty affiliates are eligible to apply.
