Shin Receives Grant on Implementing a Team-Based Care Model to Increase Cervical Cancer Screening Uptake in Low-Resource Primary Care Settings

This month, CSDE Affiliate Michelle Shin (Child, Family, and Population Health Nursing) received a Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award from the National Cancer Institute for her project titled, “Implementing a Team-Based Care Model to Increase Cervical Cancer Screening Uptake in Low-Resource Primary Care Settings.” Community health centers often are the sole providers of cervical cancer screening in underserved communities, but screening uptake remain persistently low. This clinical trial will engage an interprofessional team of primary care providers, medical assistants, and nurses to select and adapt existing evidence-based strategies into a team-based care model and pilot it in their practice settings. The findings will result in a practical model tailored to increase cervical cancer screening in communities experiencing disparities. Congratulations Dr. Shin!
