Research Scientist

Posted: 11/28/2017 (Employment)

The eScience Institute has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist.

The mission of the eScience Institute at the University of Washington is to engage researchers across disciplines in developing and applying advanced computational methods and tools to real world problems. With funding granted by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in 2013, we have been significantly advancing our mission.

We are seeking to enhance our impact in computational social sciences, made possible due to additional funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Though the eScience research staff includes researchers from many fields, including physical, mathematical and biological sciences, the Research Scientist 4 will expand the footprint of our engagement in the social sciences.  This position is part of an ongoing collaboration between the eScience Institute and the Gates Foundation, and expands the research that we can do through this collaboration.  The position also relates closely to two other initiatives on campus: the inter-departmental Urban@UW initiative and the Cascadia Urban Analytics Cooperative.

This position will collaborate with colleagues who are both researchers at UW (professors, other professional staff, postdocs, and graduate and undergraduate students) and users (domain experts within .gov and NGO stakeholders).  Because this effort is both a research project and a technology and training delivery project, its requirements can change rapidly.  The successful candidate will need to adapt to different roles and responsibilities as requirements change, and act as a key point of contact for the project across different organizational units.
