This workshop is an introduction for new users to the structure and content of the Demographic Health Surveys, a long-running program that provides nationally representative, population-based household surveys. These surveys include data for men and women during their reproductive years, and surveys respondents on a number of demographic and health topics that allow for in-depth country, and cross-country analyses. Participants will know how to access and download the data, and work with these data within the Stata programming platform.

This CSDE-taught DHS workshop is part of the Global Center for the Integrated Health of Women, Adolescents and Children (Global WACh) Intro to Data Management Series. The series is designed to help research staff and students develop skills with methodologies, data platforms, and data sets commonly used by research teams at the University of Washington and beyond. In this Series, participants will be introduced to a framework for data management and several tools and analysis techniques used to answer research questions. The series is suited to masters- and PhD-level students at the University of Washington with some exposure to health research in a local or global context.
