Dr. Vivien Chen is currently a senior education research analyst for the Education Research & Data Center (ERDC) of the State of Washington. At ERDC, where the state student longitudinal administrative data warehouse (P-20 DW) is housed, she evaluates social policies and programs related to Washington public school students’ education and workforce outcomes. She facilitates the built-up of P-20 DW and has been devoted to utilizing quality data to inform policymaking and improve student learning outcomes.
Vivien received a doctoral degree in Education Policy Studies with a minor in Demography from The Pennsylvania State University. Her research investigates policy impacts on the equality of educational opportunity and lifelong outcomes, with concentration in the correlation with space and time. Topics of her research include family structure, immigrant children, school choice and neighborhood segregation, early learning readiness, high school dropouts, college financial aid, teacher mobility, quality of student administrative data, and human capital cultivation.
