And Congratulations to CSDE Graduates and Students for Numerous Honors

We would also like to recognize CSDE Fellows and Trainees who are graduating, accepting jobs, and being recognized with a number of honors and awards:

Recognition of Doctorates and Master’s Graduates:

  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Xinguang Fan will receive a PhD in Sociology in 2020. Xinguang accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Beijing University.
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Alec Kennedy received a PhD in Public Policy & Management in 2019. He accepted a position as an Education Policy Analyst with San Francisco Public Schools.
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Sarah Stansfield received a PhD in Biocultural Anthropology and an MPH in 2019. She will be a Postdoctoral Scholar-Fellow with the National Library of Medicine Biomedical Health Informatics Training Program.
  • CSDE Fellow Hilary Wething will received a PhD in Public Policy and Management in 2020. She will be an Assistant Professor of Public Policy at Jackman-McCourtney Career Development of Pennsylvania State University. 
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Baishakhi Basu will receive an MPH with a focus on Global Health in 2020 with a thesis on “Exploration of Attributes and Sources Of Population Health Awareness Among US College Seniors” 
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Hitomi Kariya will receive an MPH with a focus on health services in 2020 with a thesis on “The Effect of Mailing HPV Self-sampling Kits to Women Underscreened for Cervical Cancer on Uptake of Preventive Health Services” 
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Sumaya Mohamed will receive an MPH with a focus on health services in 2020. Sumaya is transitioning to start the PhD Program in Sociocultural Anthropology at UW. 
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Esteban Valencia will receive an MPH with a focus on Epidemiology-Maternal Child Health.
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Hunter York will receive an MPH with a focus on Global Health. Hunter is transitioning to start the PhD Program in Sociology at Princeton University.

  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Michele Cadigan received an Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy Grant.
  • CSDE Trainee Erin Carll received the West Coast Poverty Center Dissertation Fellowship (Summer 2019) and the NSF Dissertation Improvement Award.
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Lee Fiorio received the UW Presidential Dissertation Fellowship.
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Callie Freitag received the UW Retirement Association and Patricia Dougherty Fellowship in Aging
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Delaney Glass was awarded a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship (FLAS) from the Middle East Center and the Dr. Adawia Alousi Muslim Women in STEM Scholarship Renewal from the Center for Arab American Philanthropy.
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Charles Lanfear received the UW Excellence in Teaching Award.
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Yuan Hsiao received the UW Presidential Dissertation Fellowship.
  • CSDE Predoctoral Trainee Claire Watt Rothschild received the NIH F31 Predoctoral Individual NRSA Eunice Kennedy Shriver NICHD grant and was awarded the Best Graduate Student Poster Award at the Fall 2019 CSDE Lightning Talks and Poster Session
