Assistant Professor of Biological Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor in biological anthropology to begin August 2018. This position is one of three in a health-related social science cluster hire in the College of Arts and Sciences, which the college expects will invigorate a vibrant and collaborative community of health-related research and teaching. Applicants should be biological anthropologists who utilize a biocultural approach in research with living human populations. Geographical area of expertise is open. We encourage candidates who are conversant in cultural anthropology and who use a biocultural approach with interests among the following: nutrition and food/hunger issues, child growth and development; social or environmental justice; global health; and health inequalities. We see candidates who can further collaborations in medical anthropology and the Health, Society, and Populations undergraduate major within the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as with the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health, and with community partnerships.
We seek applicants with an active externally funded research program, a strong commitment to scholarship and teaching, and evidence of effective teaching. Applicants should demonstrate ongoing or potential research projects that could include student involvement and advance students’ career opportunities. We actively seek candidates who can contribute to the department and university goals to diversify our faculty.
Candidates are expected to have a PhD in hand or by August 2018.
