The Center for Evaluation & Research for STEM Equity (CERSE) at the University of Washington is seeking a graduate research assistant to assist with two ongoing qualitative research projects, BRAINS and REDPAR. This position is primarily qualitative, though some knowledge of basic quantitative methods would be helpful. CERSE conducts research, evaluation, and consulting on diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields. We are a highly collaborative team committed to increasing the participation of people from systemically marginalized groups in STEM education and careers. The position will start Fall Quarter 2020. If work performance is satisfactory, the student may be asked to continue as a graduate research assistant for CERSE throughout the 2020-2021 academic year. The graduate research assistant will report to the Assistant Director. Duties include the following:
Responsibilities:
· General research tasks, which may include conducting literature reviews and coordinating with participating institutions;
· Data collection tasks, including creating and administering surveys, facilitating focus group discussions, and conducting observations;
· Data management and analysis tasks, including data cleaning, qualitative coding, and memo-ing;
· Assisting with research dissemination, including conference presentations and journal articles;
· Project management tasks, including maintaining and updating the project website, helping plan training and support activities on academic change, and assisting with annual meeting planning;
· Work collaboratively with CERSE staff on other related projects as needed;
· Manage multiple projects and prioritize responsibilities;
· Maintain organized project files and coordinate with collaborators within and outside of CERSE.
Desired Qualifications:
· Interest in networking, academic change, and/or social movement research;
· Excellent data analysis, writing, and oral communication skills;
· Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities;
· Experience using qualitative methodologies to collect and analyze data;
· Experience using computer software to analyze data (e.g., Atlas.ti, Dedoose, NVivo, SPSS);
· Ability to synthesize and integrate information from multiple data sources;
· Experience in communicating research results to a wide variety of cross-disciplinary audiences;
· Commitment to furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion;
· Currently enrolled graduate student at the University of Washington.
This position includes standard GRSA salary, health insurance, and tuition remission. Upon satisfactory review, the position will be extended for additional quarters.
