*New* Hybrid Reproductive Demography Workshop at University of Colorado (11/11/26 – 11/13/26)

The University of Colorado Population Center, part of the Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado Boulder, is pleased to announce the 2026 Reproductive Demography Workshop, November 11-13, 2026 in Boulder, Colorado and online. The workshop will provide training on reproductive demography (including conception, pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion, and birth).

Rising expressions of concern about fertility rates and the end of federal protections for abortion rights have increased interest in the study of abortion and fertility. Rigorous demographic analyses are required to meet this moment. But training in these methods and the data the use can be hard to secure. This workshop has four components: (1) basic training in the demography of fertility, (2) a critical survey of U.S. data sources on births, abortions, and other pregnancy resolutions, (3) training on reproductive process models, which allow demographers to study how biological and social forces shape reproductive outcomes at the population level, and (4) the opportunity to hear from experts regarding ongoing advancements and debates in U.S. abortion enumeration. To support ongoing scholarly community, participants will also be invited to join a workshop Slack and virtual follow-up meetings where small groups of participants can develop and present research.

Amanda Stevenson and Leslie Root will lead the workshop, advised by Jane Menken. The target audience for this workshop is graduate students and early-career researchers committed to advancing the demography of reproduction. Ideally, participants will have a strong quantitative background, some familiarity with demography, and a desire to learn more about the the demography of abortion or other pregnancy outcomes. The workshop may also be appropriate for practitioners who wish to learn how to use reproductive process models in their own work.
