The U.S. Census Bureau’s International Programs Center (IPC) is hiring a Statistician (Data Scientist). We are seeking a talented individual with expertise in data science, statistics, demography, and/or geography to join our team. The Center is charged with sharing the Census Bureau’s expertise globally. Our team works to advance data-driven decision making by providing in-country technical assistance, developing widely-used and free tools for data capture, processing, and analysis, and producing internationally-focused data products.
We partner with National Statistical Offices across the globe and with various international organizations to develop and promote best practices for population censuses in resource-constrained environments. Our work is critical for enhancing data quality in low- and middle-income countries and in shaping policies and strategies that impact the lives of millions of people globally. Duties and Responsibilities: As a Statistician (Data Scientist), you will contribute to the newly launched Data Science Innovation Lab which seeks to support national statistical organizations in low- and middle-income countries in applying data science methods to official statistics production, and to the development of DAPPS, a software tool for demographic analysis and population projections.
Desired Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position will have the following skills and experience:
- Programming experience in Rand/or Python
- Technical expertise in data science, statistical methods, demography, geography, or social sciences
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- S. citizenship (required)
