Michael Dunn is a Research Scientist at CSDE and Principal Investigator of the University of Washington’s NIEHS Worker Training Program. He earned a PhD and MA in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MBA from the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine, and a BA in Sociology from the University of Washington. Dunn has worked at the University of Washington since 2003 and with the NIEHS Worker Training Program since 2006, serving in multiple leadership roles during that time.
For more than two decades, Dunn’s work at UW has focused on worker safety and health, workforce development, and training for workers who face hazardous working conditions. His work emphasizes extending high-quality occupational health and safety training to underserved populations, including workers in rural and geographically isolated communities and on tribal lands throughout the Pacific Northwest.
As Principal Investigator of the UW NIEHS Worker Training Program, Dunn leads programs in hazardous waste worker training, environmental career development, and hazardous materials disaster preparedness. He also leads UW’s participation in the Western Region Universities Consortium, which brings together university, community, and tribal partners to protect workers and communities from hazardous exposures and create pathways to careers in the environmental and construction fields.
