CSDE External Affiliate David Swanson (UC Irvine) co-authored a new book with Barry Edmonston and Sharon M. Lee, published this month by Springer Nature. Immigration in Canada and the United States: Two Nations, Two Approaches presents a comparative analysis of immigration and immigrants in both countries using an applied demographic framework, which emphasizes practical and policy issues related to population size and change, demographic and socioeconomic composition, and geographic distribution. The authors examine how each country addresses immigration challenges and the resulting effects on its social and economic landscape, using the side-by-side comparison to clarify how policy choices are made and what outcomes they produce. By presenting temporal and comparative analysis, the book advances scholarly knowledge on immigration policy across demography, sociology, public policy, political science, and regional science. The book is available in hardback and ebook format on the Springer website. Congratulations Dr. Swanson!
