In two webinars, the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) and the Population Association of America (PAA) will bring together demographers and other experts to explore how AI is already being used in demographic research, how it may shape the field in the coming years, and the opportunities and challenges it presents. In Part 1 on October 16th, CSDE external affiliate Emilio Zagheni (Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research) will present on the topic: “From the Data Revolution to Generative AI: Where does demography stand?” The webinar will also feature talks from co-panelists Ridhi Kashyap, Andrew Tatem, Matthew Hauer, and moderator Visseho Adjiwanou. In Part 2 on October 22nd, CSDE affiliate Tyler McCormick (Statistics and Sociology) will present on the topic: “Rapidly changing data regimes and the implications for the use of AI in demographic research”. The webinar will also feature talks from co-panelists Dr. Evans Omondi, Dr. Isaac Maddow-Zimet, and Dr. Madeleine Short Fabic. Each webinar will combine brief presentations with moderated discussion and questions from the audience. Participants are encouraged to help shape the conversation by submitting, when they register, questions or topics they would particularly like the speakers to address. You can register for Part 1 at this link and for Part 2 at this link. We hope you will be able to join and enjoy these webinars!
