King County, WA Point-in-Time Data: People Living in Vehicles, 2026 (Short Report)

CSDE Affiliate Zack W. Almquist (Sociology) and colleagues at the King County Regional Homelessness Authority have published the first in a series of reports on unsheltered homelessness in King County, focused on people living in vehicles. Using respondent-driven sampling surveys from 2022 to 2026, the report estimates roughly 3,967 people living in cars, vans, and RVs on a single night in 2026, or about 5,460 over a full year, with breakdowns by vehicle size and geography, and covers health, domestic violence, service needs, and families with children. It recommends sanctioned safe parking with hygiene, dump-station, and pet-friendly capacity as the most direct response.
