CSDE provides support for all stages of our faculty affiliates’ and students’ population research with a wide range of services. Our administrative and scientific staff can provide specialized support on an as-needed basis or become part of your research team. See what CSDE can do for you below, and remember to acknowledge CSDE whenever you use these services in your research!
Service Areas
Biodemography
CSDE supports the use of biomarkers in population research by providing laboratory facilities for collecting, processing, and storing biological specimens and assisting affiliates with biomarker assay protocols and methods tailored to their research. In addition to its support throughout these processes, CSDE also provides a variety of lab equipment for affiliate use.
Geospatial Analysis
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is an integrated collection of computer software that manages data about geographic places, analyzes spatial relationships, and models spatial processes. Nearly all demographic research involves some form of spatial information, so CSDE affiliates can use the methodologies and technologies offered by GIS to great effect in their research.
Grants
One of CSDE’s primary goals is assisting its affiliates in applying for, securing, and managing grants. When funding is awarded, CSDE supports research projects by supervising compliance, reviewing and reconciling budgets, establishing and monitoring subcontracts, processing extensions and budget modifications when necessary, writing project reports, and disseminating and translating research.
Statistics
CSDE provides consultation and assistance in both choosing and implementing statistical methodologies for demographic research. Our seasoned statisticians are equipped to help affiliates with strategy, process, and any other questions encountered during research.
Data Services
CSDE can help you with your data. Our team of data scientists can provide assistance across all phases of your research: data collection strategies, data development/cleaning/reformatting, and database design.
UW Data Collaborative
The UW Data Collaborative (UWDC) provides the infrastructure to harness innovative, but hard-to-access and highly sensitive data for the development of novel, high-quality research and evidence-driven policy making. Central to the UWDC is a state-of-the art computing cluster that provides access to restricted data in a secure and computationally sophisticated environment.
Northwest Federal Statistical Research Data Center
The NWFSRDC provides researchers in the Pacific Northwest of the United States a secure physical and virtual environment to access and conduct statistical research using non-public data from U.S. federal government agencies.
