Proseminar Series (CSDE 502)

CSDE 502 consists of a series of 3 short courses:

  • Fall quarter (1 credit; CR/NC)
      • Introduces the field of demography, the profession, and CSDE’s resources and staff, and serves as a workshop to map out academic and career pathways, and complete an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
  • Winter quarter (2 credits, CR/NC)
      • Teaches applied methods for data preparation and reproducibility, filling a perceived curriculum gap between methods courses that emphasize study design and statistics courses that teach statistical analysis. To be taken in conjunction with CSDE 533.
  • Spring quarter (2 credits, CR/NC)
      • Addresses the responsible conduct of research, including the protection of human subjects, and offers practical advice on ethical issues pertaining to research.The NIH requires trainees to receive at least EIGHT contact hours of training in biomedical research ethics. CSDE documents that all trainees receive this training and complete an online course, specified in the syllabus.
