Call for Papers for 2023 Pacific Conference for Development Economics (Due 1/6/2023)

The 2023 Pacific Conference for Development Economics (PacDev 2023) will be held in-person at the University of Washington on Saturday, March 18, 2023. As details are finalized, they will be available on the CEGA event page.  Paper proposals are due on January 6, 2023.  The conference welcomes submissions in all research topics in development economics. While priority will be given to full papers, extended abstracts will also be considered. They encourage submissions from junior researchers, including students who are in the first two years of their graduate programs.

Request for Information (RFI): Developing Strategies to Strengthen Research on Stillbirth Prevention (Due 1/6/23)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) have issued an RFI related to stillbirth. The NIH seeks to address research gaps by developing and expanding approaches to scientific research on stillbirth. Of particular interest is information on how to improve the evidence base for prevention, including data on the causes of stillbirth; the impact of a wide range of biomedical, social, and environmental risk factors; improving clinical practice related to stillbirth prevention and so on. Attend the UAA Economic Inclusion Research Network (EIRN) Workshop (Due 1/9/2023)

Apply to attend the Urban Affairs Association Conference in Nashville, Tennessee on April 26th, 2023! The conference will be focused on Economic Inclusion, details follow below and application can be found here.

The concept of economic inclusion has been articulated in several ways, but essentially means to create equitable access to resources and opportunities that support self-sufficiency and economic security. Research on economic inclusion covers a broad range of subtopics focused on:

  • Identifying and dismantling access barriers to resources, opportunities, services, and human rights (e.g., discrimination in lending and employment; access barriers to investment capital among women, Black, indigenous, and people of color; entrepreneurial ecosystems)
  • Measurement and remediation of economic inequality and disparities that maintain disadvantage and marginality (e.g., gender and racial wage gaps; living wage campaigns)
  • Creation of new opportunities and support structures (e.g., community-based credit unions; small business incubators; supplier diversity programs; micro-loans; mentorship programs)

This workshop is designed to expose participants to current research on economic inclusion, heighten their understanding of research challenges, and provide professional networking opportunities.

Assistant Professor of Public Health – Wayne State University

The Department of Public Health at Wayne State University invites applications for MULTIPLE tenure-track Assistant Professor positions. We seek active and engaged colleagues with demonstrated research, teaching, and service interests in ELIMINATING HEALTH DISPARITIES AND SOCIAL INEQUALITIES.  Candidates may center their work in a wide range of areas including, but not limited to, gun violence and crime; neighborhood and built environment impacts; chronic disease; forced migration; food and housing insecurity; substance use, addiction, and recovery; disability; COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, or other infectious diseases; trauma and mental health; and health care access and delivery.

Candidates should have substantive scholarly expertise in one or more defined areas of public health research and practice.  We seek colleagues with an active research program, demonstrated potential for published scholarship, and an ability to draw on this research to inform their teaching and service. Candidates engaged in multidisciplinary research, community-based research collaborations, and social justice and advocacy research are strongly encouraged to apply. We value applications from persons with experience conducting community-based intervention research with vulnerable, underserved, and urban populations that may utilize a range of quantitative and qualitative methods (e.g., ethnography, Photovoice, and mixed methods).

Health Policy and Organization Faculty Positions – University of Alabama at Birmingham

The Department of Health Policy and Organization, School of Public Health (SOPH) at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks applications from dynamic scholars to join our department. The Department is seeking to hire three or more new tenure-track, open-rank faculty. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Services Research, Health Policy, Maternal and Child Health, Health Economics, or Dissemination and Implementation Science. In keeping with the Department’s strong connections to public health practice and engagement in scholarship related to practice, applicants with experience and interest in conducting community-based-participatory-research and working with public health organizations are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate on ongoing projects within the department which focus on disadvantaged populations and health disparities, and leverage rich data from Medicaid, Alabama Department of Public Health and other state agencies for high quality research and practice. They will also be expected to mount independent research agendas in collaboration with scientists from UAB and other academic institutions and public health practitioners. Applicants should demonstrate success in, or the promise of, obtaining extramural support for their research and publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. Teaching in undergraduate or graduate programs will be required. These are full-time (12-month), tenure-track positions. Initial rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Epidemiology Professor – Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans

The Epidemiology Program at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans, School of Public Health invites applicants for a new tenure track, open-rank faculty member

They seek candidates with research expertise in molecular epidemiology or environmental epidemiology, although individuals with interests in other areas of epidemiologic research will also be considered. Skills and training in epidemiologic methods, cancer, infectious, social, and clinical epidemiology, health disparities, informatics, or implementation science are especially desired.

The School of Public Health (SPH) is located on the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) campus which is downtown in the medical district of the metropolitan area. LSUHSC-NO is a part of the Louisiana State University (LSU) System. The Epidemiology Program is one of five program in the SPH and has a national reputation for cancer research, community-engaged research and practice and for promoting health equity. The Epidemiology Program offers a BS degree, MPH degree, including a MD/MPH track, and a PhD degree and MD/PhD track. Department faculty also support the undergraduate (bachelor’s in science) programs in public health (BSPH).
