Two Job Population Forecasting Job Opportunities
The Population Group within Washington State’s Office of Financial Management is recruiting a Forecast Analyst and a Senior Forecast Analyst:
- As the Forecast Analyst, you will be part of a team that produces a variety of population estimates and forecasts at the state, county and sub-county levels. You will lead OFM’s annexation and boundary certification functions working closely with local governments, state agencies and the U.S. Census Bureau.
- The Senior Forecast Analyst supports state, county and sub-county estimate work that is required by Washington State statute, using expert level knowledge in software development, modeling, forecasting and professional leadership. You will develop and produce the age, sex, race and Hispanic origin estimates (Small Area Demographic Estimates) for Washington State geographies down to the census block, working closely with other Office of Financial Management (OFM) analysts and partner agencies during the process.

CSSS Research Seminar by Jennie Brand on ‘Uncovering College Effect Heterogeneity’
Dr. Jennie Brand, UCLA’s California Center for Population Research, is joining the Center for Statistics in the Social Sciences seminar to give a talk on sorting out the heterogeneity in college effects that is so frequently observed in education analyses. Dr. Brand is a professor of sociology and statistics at UCLA and details about her talk can be found HERE.
New Article and Policy Statement from Hajat and Co-Authors
CSDE Affiliate and Associate Professor of Epidemiology Anjam Hajat has two new publications that are recently available. The first article, published in Environmental Health with a number of co-authors, explores the effect of neighborhood greenspace exposure on dementia risk. Hajat and her colleague Elizabeth Sweet also have out a new policy statement, published through the American Public Health Association. Titled “The Impacts of Individual and Household Debt on Health and Well-Being,” this statement reviews the literature on the wholistic effects of debt and discusses policy implications.
New Evidence from Randomized Clinical Trial by Barnabas and Colleagues
CSDE Affiliate and Associate Professor of Global Health Ruanne Barnabas and her co-authors recently published a study of an easy-to-administer anti-SARS-CoV-2 treatment’s efficacy on progression from early asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection to symptomatic COVID-19. You can read the full study HERE. The authors find that this antibody treatment reduced the incidence of symptomatic COVID-19 cases within their sample, relative to the placebo comparison.
Allard, Romich, and Colleagues Release New Study on Minimum Wage and Entrepreneurs from Marginalized Communities
With co-authors Mahesh Somashekhar and James Buszkiewicz, CSDE Affiliates Scott Allard and Jennifer Romich have a new article recently accepted and available in pre-print in Economic Development Quarterly. The paper explores the responses of business owners from marginalized communities to the introduction of a $15 minimum wage in Seattle.
Utilizing Population-based Data in Adolescent Suicide Research
This week CSDE will host Affiliate and Assistant Professor in the UW School of Social Work Meghan Romanelli. Dr. Romanelli will utilize ideation-to-action theories of suicide to frame two interrelated studies of adolescent suicide based on population-based data from the CDC National Youth Risk Behavior Survey.
